The Firm behind the book

You built the business.
Now it's time to own it at the Graduate Level.

Most owners stay operators for life: indispensable, maxed out, and quietly unsure who they'd be without the company. The Graduate Level is the other way to own. Your business grows in value, supports your life goals, runs without you, and stepping back becomes a choice instead of a fear. It's the idea Ronen and Terry wrote the book on, and the method GLOBO Advisors was built to deliver, on the real numbers and the human side no one else asks about.

★★★★★ 25+ years, hundreds of owners, and the book that named the method.
On the left, a stressed owner leading a crowded meeting with employees around a table and financial charts on the wall behind him; on the right, a calm owner watching his business grow, with a modern building, greenery, and a rising chart; the book stands between them as the doorway.

The part nobody talks about

Are any of these the reason you still can't step away from the business?

Ask yourself an honest question: if you took two months off, would the business survive? For most owners the answer is no, and they've been telling themselves for years that they'll fix it. After 25+ years and hundreds of owners, we've learned what's actually in the way. It's almost never the spreadsheet.

i.

“No one can do it as well as I can.”

The most common reason owners stay stuck. If you're not there, you're certain it slips. So you keep every decision, and the business keeps needing you.

ii.

“If I'm not running it, who am I?”

The business absorbed your life, your energy, your identity. Stepping back sounds less like freedom and more like disappearing.

iii.

“I can't afford for it to run without me.”

Your wealth is tied up in the business, so easing off feels like betting your future on someone else. The truth is the opposite: a business that depends on you is worth less.

iv.

“Everyone here counts on me.”

Your team, your customers, your family. Letting go feels like letting them down, so you carry it all, and nobody grows into the space you're standing in.

Every one of these is fixable, and none of them get fixed by working more hours. There's another way to own. See the Graduate Level

The Value Gap

Is your business worth enough to fund the life you actually want?

And if the answer is no, is your whole future still riding on it?

Most owners have a number in their head and a number on paper, and have never put the two side by side. The Value Gap is the distance between what your business is worth today and what it needs to be worth to fund the life you have in mind.

There is usually a second gap underneath it. Your wealth may be almost entirely tied up in the business, which means the life you want and the risk you carry are the same asset. That's a fragile place to stand, and it's fixable, but only once you can see it.

The family question

Planning to hand the business to your children, and quietly unsure how?

It's the outcome most owners hope for, and the one most likely to go wrong. Only about 30% of family businesses make it into the second generation. Roughly 13% reach the third. Just 3% make it to the fourth.

Timing

Parents hold on too long, or children take the reins before they're ready.

Communication

Plans get made for the next generation without ever being discussed with them.

Value

The price gets discounted to make the deal work, and your retirement quietly depends on your children's success.

Readiness

Wanting to run it and being able to run it are not the same thing, and someone has to say so out loud.

The ones who beat those odds aren't lucky. They planned early, had the hard conversations, and brought in a guide before the tension became permanent. See how we guide family transitions

The idea behind all of it

There's another way to own a business. We call it the Graduate Level.

Undergraduate owners run the business. Graduate Level owners own it, the way an investor would. The business grows in value, it runs without them, and stepping back becomes a choice instead of a fear.

It comes down to eight ways of thinking: planning your life first, owning like an investor, building a business that runs without you, growing a team that carries the plan, leading by the numbers, closing your Value Gap, facing the human side, and planning for what if and what's next.

It's the subject of the book Ronen and Terry wrote, and the method behind everything we do.

Choose the door that fits where you are.

Some owners are ready to rethink how they own their business. Others have a specific challenge right now and want an expert who's seen it before. We do both.

Owner stories

The plan only matters if the life does.

Composite stories drawn from 25 years of work with owners. Details changed; the patterns are real.

"We had ten years and a dream. We needed a plan that connected the two."

A couple knew they wanted to transition to their son in a decade and spend more time with family, but hadn't funded their own future. We built a five-year growth plan tied to their personal goals. Ten years on, the business, the son, and the parents are all thriving.

"Clarity at 37 meant freedom at 43."

An engineer pooled his savings to launch a boutique lab. By getting clear on his goals early, he built real value fast, and sold the company at a considerable profit six years later, achieving financial independence before most owners even start planning.

"The hardest part wasn't the deal. It was letting go."

An owner of thirty years had every financial reason to transition, and couldn't. The work that unlocked it wasn't analytical; it was helping him face what he was really afraid of, and design a life worth moving toward. The plan followed the person.

About

The advisor who starts with you, not your balance sheet.

For more than 25 years, Ronen Shefer has helped business owners do the thing almost no one helps with: connect the business they built to the life they actually want.

Most advisory work stops at the transaction: the valuation, the structure, the deal. The real work, the part that determines whether an owner ends up fulfilled or full of regret, lives on the other side of the brain. The fear. The identity. The family. The question of what comes next.

That conviction became a book, a method, and the practice now known as GLOBO Advisors. The problems owners face are remarkably similar from one business to the next. The circumstances never are, which is exactly why this work takes someone who can navigate both the numbers and the human beings behind them.

Are you running your business at the Graduate Level?

Ten questions. A personal scorecard across the areas that matter most: how independent the business is from you, your leadership team, your plan, whether your wealth is riding on the business, and the part nobody talks about. No cost, no obligation.

Take the assessment

The business was supposed to give you freedom.

Let's make sure it does. Start with the assessment, or have a direct conversation, no pitch, just a chance to see where you are.
